About the Archive

Motif Batik is an open archive and study of Indonesian batik motifs. We document classic patterns along with their philosophy, history, and variations to make this knowledge accessible to anyone — researchers, designers, educators, or readers who simply want to understand batik more deeply.

Limitations

Motif classification often overlaps between regions and royal courts. The same name may refer to slightly different patterns in different areas. We note these differences rather than simplifying them.
